The 120th Wimbledon Championships were a great success with both world number ones' claiming the singles titles.

Federer fought off a confident Nadal in a scintillating final, to claim his fourth successive Wimbledon title, emulating the achievement of Sampras. Federer extended his grass court dominance by winning his 48th straight game on the surface in four sets.

Amelie Mauresmo shook off doubts and nerves when she came back from a set down to beat Justine Henin-Hardenne and claim the title adding it to the Australian Open shoe won earlier in the year. It was a classic final in which saw two of the top players in the world match each other stroke for stroke, but ultimately the number 1 seed was victorious. Mauresmo is the first Frenchwoman to win the title since 1925.
